Privacy Policy

Effective 8 August 2026 · Applies to SpanTime for macOS and Windows, including the Mac App Store edition

In short

SpanTime doesn't collect your data. Every time entry, client, and note you type stays in a file on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to us — there's no account, no server, and nothing to opt out of, because there's nothing being sent in the first place.

01 Overview

SpanTime is a local-only time-tracking application published by Stoeffel-Media. It is built so that your business data — your clients, jobs, time entries, and notes — never has to leave the computer it's typed into. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice: what SpanTime stores, where, and what (if anything) ever crosses the network.

This policy covers every distribution of SpanTime — the version sold directly at stoeffel-media.com.au and the version distributed through the Mac App Store. Where their behaviour differs, both are described explicitly, most notably in Sections 5 and 6.

02 What we don't collect

We collect none of the following, on any platform, in any version of the app:

There are no user accounts, no sign-in, and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs of any kind built into SpanTime.

03 What's stored on your device

Everything you enter in SpanTime — clients, jobs, services, tags, time entries, notes, rates, and your app preferences — is written to a single file in your computer's local application-data folder. It is readable only by the app running on your machine, under your own user account.

CategoryExamples
Time tracking dataTime entries, running timer state, notes
Business dataClients, jobs/projects, services, tags, billing rates

License (direct edition only)License key and the name it was issued to

This data stays on your device until you remove it. You can export it or permanently delete it at any time from Settings inside the app — no request to us is required, because we hold no copy to act on.

04 Folder Sync (optional)

SpanTime includes an optional feature that lets you keep your data in sync across your own devices. If you turn it on, SpanTime writes the same local data described above to a folder you choose yourself, using a standard file picker.

That folder is entirely under your control. If you point it at a folder inside iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive, those services will sync it the same way they sync any other file you save there — that happens through your account with that provider, under their own privacy terms, not ours. SpanTime itself never uploads anything to a Stoeffel-Media server; the write is a direct file operation from your computer to the folder you picked.

05 PDF export

The PDF export feature opens a print page in your default web browser, entirely on your device. No data is sent to any external server to generate it — you print or save it locally using your browser's own print dialog.

06 Mac App Store edition

This edition makes no network requests at all

The version of SpanTime distributed through the Mac App Store runs inside Apple's App Sandbox and has no license-activation screen and no built-in update checker — both are Store-incompatible features that are compiled out of this edition entirely, not merely hidden. As a direct result, this edition of SpanTime does not make a single network request during normal use.

Folder Sync (Section 4) still works the same way in this edition. Because of Apple's sandboxing rules, SpanTime additionally stores a small, OS-managed permission token (a "security-scoped bookmark") so it can keep access to your chosen sync folder after you restart the app. That token is created and read entirely on your device by macOS itself — it is never transmitted anywhere.

07 Licensing & update checks (direct edition)

The version of SpanTime sold directly at stoeffel-media.com.au uses a license key you purchase and enter once. The paragraphs below describe exactly what that involves — the Mac App Store edition has none of this, per Section 5.

Activating SpanTime with a license key does not send your key or name to any server, and we don't receive confirmation that you've activated the app. The direct edition does make two limited network requests — a periodic check for the current version number, and an occasional download of a list used to support license revocation — neither of which uploads anything about you or your device.

08 Children's privacy

SpanTime is a professional time-tracking tool intended for business use and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age — which, given Sections 2–3 above, is a natural consequence of how the app is built rather than a separate safeguard we had to add.

09 Your rights & choices

Regulations like the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, export, correct, and delete your personal data. Because SpanTime never sends your data to us in the first place, you already hold all of it, in full, at all times:

Because we hold no copy of your data, there is no separate request process to send us — the controls above are the complete and immediate mechanism.

10 Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy, we'll note it in the app's "What's New" history on the next update, and update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of SpanTime after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
